Best Zimbabwean Urban Groovers

NB: This is not a rank-this is a list of 10 of some of the best Zimbabwean urban groove artists who have managed to stay consistent ever since they first hit the air waves. The urban groove's industry has been plorific since the early 2000's in a youthful movement begginning with successiful individuals such as Decibel, Nasty Tricks, Ngonie Kambarami, Betty Mkhaya e.t.c. And the wave has continued for a period of over 16years. It has been marked with upheveals and falls, artists coming on the scene and not managing to-become consistent, quite a number of the individuals are known for being one hit wonders.

These are some of the urban groove artists who have managed to remain consistent in their music careers.

Alexio kawara

Born on 28 November 1978, Alexio Kawara has been on the Zimbabwean music front since the year 2000, making his spot in the penning of the Hit song 'Amai' which featured some of the top urban groove artists. Alexio has managed to bridge from just being part with the contemporary Afro-fusion rythm (current trend).
Alexio has remained consistent over the years in a run that has seen him recording 5 studio albums with prime songs such as shaina (shine), Zvazvinhu (exceptional) and more. He is also known for his world class perfomances in Big events along with his furnished bands 50 Shades of Black which is his major back up system. Throught his career, he has won a number of awards that include prestigious NAMA award 2 times in a row and one at the victor's awards in 2011. Major hits: Chibvigubvugu

Leornard M

Gaining stardom on the Zimbabwean music scene in 2002 with hit song 'Seiko' that featured another consistent perfomer Roki, Learnad Mapfumo is an urban grooves Hip-hop artist who has been consistent since his first appearence as a 19year old in the year ().
He has made hits successivley from his inaugaration and has gained recognition in the movement as one of the founding fathers of the urban groove sound. He has made prolific sounds over the 14 year period that include Hera, Happy Birthday Zimbabwe, Ndiwe etc. One of his songs Maidei holds a 42week chart topping record and that has established the artist as one of the nations's favourite Hip-hop artists.

Diana Samkange

The former 2BG diva has overtime spanned into solo-urban groove music and into taking up traditional and jazz sound (current genre)
That has seen her embracing the famous mbira instrument.
Ever since her introduction on the music scene as part of 2Boys and One girl group that featured Calvin Mavhuga and Blush which made chart toppers such as Dhiya Ndoda Kuva new, Diana has since managed to stay consistent. Into/upto the time she went solo & has mantained(). Her songs receive daily airplay on Zimbabwe's top stations and her music videos are quite popular online channels like youtube and Facebook. She is also famous for unchanging yet breathtaking perfomances at Jazz on local Jazz music meetings on glamourous audiences in venues as the Book Cafes, and Bar Rouge at Lond Cheng. Her albums since leaving 2BG include; First Diary in 2010, Kumazivandadzoka, Mationesa....She has also taken her experience to help in groom upcoming artists through a mentorship program.

Tererai Mugwadi

Coming through the Chamhembe wave as a teenager in 2003, Terari has remained consistent throughout her 10+ year music. She broke into the urban music scene with her hit single Waenda which bacame an instant chat topper.
Her songs (+collaborations) have remained a huge part of the Zimbabwean music culture and constantly receive airplay from the country's youthful stations like Powerfm, Zifm, Starfm...She has managed to releaese remarkable single track at a rate of track per year from the start of her career up to the present time. He songs include Chii Chirikuitika, Samba Song, Dai Zvaitika, Rugare and she recently she featured on Maskiri's NaMwari a nation's hit.

5. Trevor Dongo

The man has been consistent since the launch of his career as an urban groover's r'n'b artist in 2004. His first album 'Ndozvita Sei' has been followed by a series of of both unchanging recoeding and perfoming brilliances year in year out up to the present time. His artistry has seen him winning a number of reputable awards from NAMA and ZIMA (Zimbabwe Music Awards). He has 4 studio albums to his name that have done very well, managing to pull off multiple hit songs on each. 6) Roki

It's been all ups & ups in the urban groover's contemporary artist's career that began in 2001 with the Hit Songs 'Seiko' which featured L. Mapfumo and Suzanna. During the loosening of the 100% local content policy when most urban groove's artist and groups 'like' Betty Makhaya, Honey Vibes, Nox vanished with the rise in the consumption of foreign music, Roki still managed to make a spot for recognition-making Hit songs during the time. The artist has made a lot of mainstream songs yearly and has constantly staged thrilling perfomances on live events.

7. If not the first of the pack, Ex-Q is one of the well known urban groovers who has remained consistent in 'producing' music. The 'Hip-Hop' artist first released his nation wide hit 'Musalala' in 2001 which was followed by a succession of 'Hit making' that established him a significant name in the movement. The artist's 15+year career has seen him collaborating with the country's top names in music like Oliver Mtukudzi. During his 'major' years 2001, 2004, 2008, 2011, 2016, he released remarkable songs like Musalala 2001, Love is Religion(2007), Grown & Sexy(2008), Alleluya (2015), 2015. Ndichakutevera (2004)

8. Sanii Makhalima

Sani Makhalima up to date released 8 studio albums to his names in a space of 16 years which averages one per year every 2years. He has managed to produce hit songs on every album and has topped chart on countless occassions - His albums upto date from the benninf of his career in 1999 include Usadaro() Ndofefeterwa(), Acoustic (),The Urban Renewal (2011), Zvachose (2011), kubhaguja (2013).

Varaidzo (Nyakunika)

Commonly referred to as a songstress in the entertainment circles, Varaidzo has had a consistent run in her music career that is characterised largely by the urban groove. She has managed to hit the country's top charts a couple of times since her first 'appearance' on the music scene in 2011. She has a single album to her name along with quite a number of single tracks that aired on national radio stations.
