Mobile applications to help you multitask effectively

While multi-tasking is associated with horrendous outcomes in things like one's health, decreased productivity and more bad things. It's still almost impossible to overlook the quick pace of today's life which automatically coerces someone into carrying the burden of handling quite a number of tasks they can hardly handle all at once. If the carrying out of many tasks at the same time is not properly organised there is nothing but bad results to be released. And finding time and resources to efficiently organised is also a wholesome task.

But the good news is there are a lot of easy to find smartphone applications designed to help you multi-task effectively without necessarily putting your mental focus and physical health on the line. And so far, these five revamped all-rounder applications are 2017’s best you can find.

HANDLE

Handle is a smartphone application that will conveniently carry you miles & miles on your journey of multitasking. The application will conjoin all the work you have to do, emails, to dos, and it also includes a calendar to help you remember when. This amazing organiser will help you keep on top of your workday in a very simple to understand manner. Even huge corporate giants like Bloomberg  as well the (Wall Street Journal) respect the application for it's relevance in urging productivity.
And the best part of it is that you can get it for free.

OMNI FOCUS

This is a good example of how price tags do not usually tell the opposite of the truth. Selling at USD-$39.00 in a chaotic realm of free mobile applications marks a whole lot developer confidence, that implies having something to speak of it.

OmniFocus is one 'time-saving-focus-enhancing smartphone application.' Omni focus will help you organize your tasks efficiently. And to top it off all, it will help you stay focused on your tasks.
OmniFocus lets you see your work in a variety of ways. 'Each perspective is designed for something specific; planning, doing, checking on your upcoming day, and you name it.

THINGS

Things can't get any jollier and basic when organising your tasks. Not only will the application get you going in no time at all when you get it. It will also help you discover how, 'Things' will help make you more productive. All you do is simply enter your 'to-dos' add all the important details; enter title, notes, and due date and Things will remind you all the things you might find out hard to remember.

WRITE or DIE

If you're one those people who just start off with a piece of writing and abandon it halfway through and you do it over and over again at the expense of your time and productivity.

Well, say no more, from now on the hostile Write or die will have the knife of productivity held to your neck .This compelling application is meant to help you, keep you focused on writing and nothing else.

What you do with it is that you set your writing targets, what time you plan to write continuously, and the length of your writing session. Then you propose your punishment if you happen to meet your targets. The worst of the punishments is "it starts to delete what you're writing if you happen to pause for too long"

Do yourself a favor and get the application here get rid of that 'struggling writer' label

Price $9.99 (just because it might delete some of your work don't mean it comes for free)
But you can get the freemium version here.

2-DO

"With great power comes great productivity", reads the application’s official website, 2Do is designed to qmeet your need for speed.

'Quickly enter your thoughts and ideas before you forget?', 2Do has a simple design that goes deeper than what the eye meets at first. You'll discover how to stay on top of your daily chores, or a full-feature (GTD) too heavy taskers.

2Do's forceful productivity-awareness engine will help you stay focused on all of your tasks.

HILARIOUS CRISTIANO RONALDO STATUE

Catch all world cup 2018 matches for free

Breaking news! # WeGotThis

__ Kwesé Sports wins FIFA World Cup 2018 rights, and NBA game for Africa.

Last week I said Kwesé Sports will make a big announcement... Here goes! FIFA, the world governing-body for soccer, has just awarded Kwesé Sports the exclusive free-to-air rights to broadcast the finals of the FIFA World Cup 2018 tournament in sub-Saharan Africa (except South Africa).

Kwesé Sports will broadcast the World Cup exclusively for FREE in over 40 countries, at the same time. This has never happened before in African history. This is why this is such a big deal for us, and for Africa!

# Kwesé Sports will broadcast the finals for free in English, French and Portuguese.

# I believe we will probably broadcast the final itself to over 250m viewers across Africa for free!

# We've also secured Pay-TV rights (except South Africa) and will broadcast all matches on our other channels on the decoder and also on the Kwesé Mobile App.

# Every single game will be broadcast, but some will be only available on the decoder and Kwesé App.
These particular rights will be shared with another broadcaster. It is the first time two broadcasters have shared the Pay-TV rights.

It all kicks off at the FIFA Confederations Cup this June and July in Russia, where Africa will be represented by Africa Cup of Nations winner, Cameroon.

How cool is this?!

Well, there is more!

# Kwesé Sports Exclusive: NBA game in South Africa on 5 August!

For only the second time in history, two teams from the National Basketball Association (NBA) in America will play on African soil.

As the official partner of the NBA in Africa, Kwesé Sports has been given the exclusive right to broadcast this game, which will be televised around the world. We really feel honored by this development.

We plan to broadcast the game for FREE in most African countries! It will also be available on the Kwesé decoder and the mobile TV App, in every single African country.
I'll tell you much more about this star-studded event closer to the date. A lot of global celebrities have already confirmed their attendance. It is going to be one of the biggest sports events ever!

Now as I pointed out before, in any business that you do, it's important to have a clear understanding of what drives the industry you are in. For example, in the TV business the most important TV programs are what we call "premium and exclusive."

This means your programs must not be available on another network. Broadcasters pay millions and even billions of dollars to secure "premium exclusive" content.
I can't wait for these games to begin! I look forward to meeting some of you in Russia and South Africa.
Who was it that said, "If you can dream it, you can do it"?
To be continued. . .

SuperSport Seals World Cup 2018 deal: official statement

Other FIFA events on the broadcast calendar are the FIFA Under-20 and Under-17 World Cups, the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup and, in 2018, the FIFA Under-20 and Under-17 Women’s World Cup tournaments.

SuperSport has exclusive pay TV rights in South Africa to all the games of the FIFA Confederations Cup and the FIFA World Cup. Rights are on a non-exclusive basis in the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa.

Monetizing your website: Ad networks options

A lot of web-publishers struggle to get their blogs or websites approved for monetization by the top credible advertising placement services with reference to whatever reasons that might be. After all the time, effort and money start up publishers invest in their niche, they at times apply for the best inventory monetization options and still get rejected. Painful isn't it? And at times it might seem there are no good alternatives, yet there are loads of blog monetization options. This list contains 'quick-to-approve’ options publishers can consider signing up for.
Adsoid

Adsoid is one of the best (if not the second best) cpm advertising network. It has very good cpm rates for its publishers to make sure they make the most out of their content. Unlike with other ad networks publishers can cash out their funds on bi-weekly bases. Publishers are paid $10.00 as a sign up bonus and at times it takes less than day to get your site approved. Your location or your site's low traffic is something they are willing to overlook.

ADWINet

This is one of the amazing digital ad networks offering various ad services worldwide. ADWINet makes use of the cpm model, meaning you hold the cue over your publisher earnings. And given their not so demanding criteria, you can get quickly get approved by their team. Admediaking Admediaking lets you enjoy of the best cpm rates for your inventory on the marketing industry. There is an enormous chance for you to boost your ad revenue quite constantly by over 200% than with the usual marketers. Admedia king also makes use of the cpc model ads for your commissions. It has a $2.00 minimum payment threshold. And the network has a quick approval rate or you just create your account and get your ad code automatically. Publishers are paid through check, bank and the service is based in the US (location won’t be an issue).

AdTall Advertising Network

Adtall is an advertising Network that provides a platform for publishers to source quality traffics when they monetize their website inventories with the network. It offers cpc/ppc & cpm expedition models that are served through Banner, Interstitial or text ads on the exclusive premium publishers guaranteeing publishers an increase on their ad revenues. It is also quite easier to get approved with the network since its requirements are quite reasonable for a fresh publisher. You're guaranteed to earn more from the cpm model based on your rate of impressions. The ADTALL system ensures maximum revenue possible at time by giving you ads from the highest bidders to your website..

Advizual

Advizual is a real-time advertising and trading platform that offers ultimate-performing quick fixes to online publishers globally. Advizual is one the head-most advertising networks in the industry. When you create an Advizual account and you get your domain approved all you have to do is place a java-script code that is generated by Adzvizual system in the website's inventory.

AdCombo

AdCombo is a CPA marketing network where you can customise advertising campaigns in order reach targeted audiences from around the world. Getting started on the network is easy as, signing up, choosing an offer, creating landing pages along with prelands, and you're ready to go and your affiliation will wait less than 24hours for approval. Two of the best things about adcombo is that it operates on offers which aren't limited by geographical location and publishers can bag on their 'CPA' conversion ability for desired profits.

Admarket

Is the first ever Zimbabwean online ad placement network that I have come across, however I haven't read any review whatsoever from publishers and it seems quite hard to earn with the service because they have a 'Free on sign up' package for advertiser which gives them up to 400 free views for their advert and my strong guess is that those views come at the expense of publishers. But they have an pretty reasonable plan for 100 000+ views which costs advertisers $250.00 (not knowing how much the publisher will get out of that). Admarket serves plain text adverts using various fonts, banner ads that include ipg, png, and gifs, and video adverts using MP4 format. Ads will start appearing on your site in less than 24 hours after you set up you set up your publisher account.

Ecocash Zimbabwe Reasons For Continued Survival

Zimbabwe's leading mobile commerce service, Ecocash has remained relevant up to date since its inception in 2011 and at its peak in the year 2015 alone handled over US$7.4 billion in transactions which was the highest as compared to its nearest m-commerce competitors. In a time where there is a stinging cash shortage crisis that has been going on since 2016 around the time of April up to the present day, February 2017, one would not help it, but wonder if the top mobile money service will continue to to enjoy its levels of success or it will emerge into a slump along with the cash transactions. As in my understanding, all along Ecocash has gained its popularity at all levels with regard to it's agents who are mainly in the informal sector. They are responsible for most of the actual, cash-ins and cash-outs for most customer mobile wallets, and some of the direct customer transanctions where carried out to a lesser extend on the cross network plartform and their patner banks notably Steward bank. But the trend has long changed ever since the current cash crisis came about, individual customers have long ceased 'banking' with agents following the panicked holding of money away from any kind of banking service due to the introduction of bond notes in October 2016. Most customers have only resorted to cash-only spending and it is only for those customers employed in the formal sector of the economy doing more of 'coerced' direct bank card payments dubbed 'plastic money' as their remunerations are paid to formal banks which have been subject to the economies' cash shortages which has been the major ccause of long bank queues for the bigger part of 2016 up until now in 2017. So, less cabin-agents influence Ecocash will fail, right? I would like to think it would seem as that when Ecocash as brand has failed to adapt to the prevailing business terrain, then that would mean the ethic of entrepreneurship which has built the foundations of the initiative has become desolate. But if not for that as it is now, then Ecocash is a guaranteed success in the face of cash economy slump that is likely to go on for quite a while. According to the countries mobile courriers regulator (POTRAZ), as its 2016's last quarterly report, Ecocash alone was responsible for carrying out 98.5% of all the country's cashless transactions due to its competency on push factors such as marketing and service convenience, and that renders the service a monopoly status in a sphere where competitors (including the banks because they offering the same services such as debit card and master card payments), are open to challenge for a fair market share value. And also according to another report, 70% of the countries' adult population remains unbanked (in the formal sense) due to a number of economic factors that include, huge bank charges and ease of banking services. Merchants and the worker renumeration service have since taken toll ahead of agent mobile- banking which began to inconvenience customers due to the unavailability of of cash mainly for cash-outs . Both the formal and the informal sectors of employment have reportedly managed to adopt Ecocash's payroll and bulk payment service for worker renumerations and payments of huge amounts which is now responsible for most payments in that calibre, and just to note, knowing Ecocash's ability to pernatrate the public the market through viable marketing campaigns will surely see the services grow to a relevant level to serve money transactions. When workers get paid, usually the next thing is looking for ways to spend the money and much of it goes into the payment of goods and services. Given the current cash-shortage crisis, most companies are likely to adopt Ecocash's bulk payment system which will also facilitate organisation to organisation mobile money transactions just as the worker and employee transactions. And in the long run, employees as well as the receiving organisations will automatically adapt to using the merchant payment service which has been proudly embraced by traders nationwide in order to boost sales in the face of the cash crisis. In short, I believe Ecocash will be successful in the face of the current cash crisis due to its 'emerging' merchant and payroll and bulk payment services as the 'cabin-agent' based service is facing cash challenges. And also because it is operating on a monopoly status where it has most of the mobile money subscribers among the country's telecommunications companies where the numbers are also growing at an alarming growth rate, that would see Ecocash serve it's purporse of m-money transactions and grow its business revenues.

#Zimrant: A Letter To My People of Zimbabwe

Alista Mukucha

A letter to my PEOPLE

1. It is with great pleasure that I write this at a time when the president’s health has once again been under scrutiny. It was widely reported that his excellency left the country under some very unusual circumstances to receive medical treatment in Singapore or as the state controlled media likes to say, ‘he had gone for a routine checkup.’ It is reported that he came back from Singapore, made a brief stop in Zimbabwe before proceeding to Ghana for the independence celebrations. I should state here that my pleasure does not come from some weird celebration of the president’s ailment or relief that he has ‘resurrected’ once again. No! I honestly do not care and I wish to invite others not to care too.

Our passive preoccupation with this man’s health or whereabouts actively takes away from our contribution to heal our nation. Whilst we speculate on when he will finally give in and die, we reduce a whole generation to a bunch of armchair critics whose only contribution to the fate of our country is waiting for a single man to die. Not just a man, but a frail old man who is otherwise impotent if it were not for his occasional speeches punctuated by that infamous little fist in the air. Cont reading

The strongest characters in Pokémon Go (ranked by combat efficiency)

It might at times seem like the Pokemon Go characters are at par when it comes to combat ability but this rating in Combat Efficiency Proves that assumption is far from the case. The top five monsters as rated are:

1. Mewtwo | 2. Dragonite | 3. Mew | 4. Articuno | 5. Snorlax | Source: Silphroad

 1. Mewtwo

Is the strongest when it comes to attack with the bar at, well, a 100% but has seriously lower stamina level with the rating bar close to something like 30%. Mewtwo has considerably a remarkable level in defense at around 80%. The monster weighs 122 kg and is 2 meters tall.

 2. Dragonite

Dragonite's defense level is tied at the same level on a percentage around 90. And has a stamina level around 30-40%, the monster weighs 210 kg and is high at gigantic height of 2.2 meters.

3. Mew

Don't really know how this is possible, but at only a weight of 0.4 Kg, Mew comes in strongly as virtual character (unrealistic?) in terms of size and capability. The tiny monster only weighs 4kgs and has an attack level slightly below its defense ability with about 10 or so points which stands somewhere at 95%.

 4. Articuno

Articuno weighs 55.4 kg and is 1.7 meters tall. The monster has quite balanced abilities that are around 65-75%.

5. Morltres

Morltres has both attack and defense at almost the same level around 85%. And has a stamina level around 40%. Morltres is 2 meters long and weighs 60 kg.

News Throwback: Zimbabwe Status 2015

: Zimbabwe Top News  FOLLOWING-the Zimbabwe’s national governments’ bid to relocate the struggling vendors to licensed vending areas, 8 July 2015, proved a fateful day for the Harare’s illegal vendors as the ZRP backed Municipal Council police stormed Harare’s CBD which had gradually became a vending hub leaving all the informal vending establishments chaotically overturned.

The unsuspecting vendors who were in the days’ usual business under the early afternoon’s winter shinny sun were served to a devastating surprise visit by the Municipal council police and the ZRP’s heavy trucks whose personnel immediately took the undiplomatic task of clearing the City’s chaotic streets and pavements by its horns. Municipal Council Police & the ZRP In a bid to relocate Harare’s vendors to force Harare’s vendors to the newly government designated vending areas located in the town’s peripherals, the ‘ground’ authorities overturned and destroyed the vendors’ stalls and all the illegal cabins around the CBD in a mini-Murambatsvina style to deal with the vendor’s resistance effectively.

On the 6th of June 2015, the government had issued a 26 June 2015 street evacuation notice to the vendor’s representing organisations which was long missed. The government stated that the illegal vendors trading haphazardly around the CBD move to new council regulated places and in the process get registered with the City council hence the regularising the vending Business.

The ‘poor’ vendors struggling to make daily ends meet had not welcomed the idea arguing that their businesses are too small for taxation by the council. Moreover they believe the places designated for vending will not see the usual influx of customers and relocating to unviable areas will mean doing away with invisible benefits like making merchandise available right at the customers’ feet like impulse buying which for a long time they had always enjoyed.

One casualty identified by his fellow vendors as “Mdara Dzvivo” who stood motionlessly amidst the mayhem holding on tightly to his disturbed business premises (a cardboard box that is) and his sack of merchandise loudly soliloquised at the authorities saying, “....Moti nyika haina mari, haina mabasa, toedza kuiruka toga, motidzinga kutiendesa kumapiripiti uko kusina anosvika mati titengesarane tega here..,” (the designated places are not viable for business). The rampant scene also paved way for the fortune seeking touts who immediately took advantage of the situation to snatch from vendors and teaming up to claim other valuable material. From time to time among the crowd made of vendors and the noises coming from tables that were being plundered by the authorities one would hear a desolate scream (esp by women), “...Mkwasha siyai, isimbi dzangu idzodzo hamunyare...” (Leave my metal bars or equipment, thief!) a situation that obviously added a burden to the already distressed women who are believed to be the ones mostly affected by the nation’s economic instability. Some wouldn’t but extremely help show their anger towards displacement and got their voices heard by joining the small protest in Speke Avenue against the move. The protest the vendors move up and the street chanting in a monotonous uniformity and displaying placards carrying thoughtful messages like, “Mahure Makabvumidza Wani,” (recently prostitution was allowed which the vendors regard as an immoral way of seeking livelihood) referring to the recent constitutional altercations made on the national policies on ‘thigh vending’ which saw the acts being bent to the Sex Workers’ advantage.

But, ‘temporarily’ none of the cries were able to halt the authorities from performing their duties to clean up the Sun Shine City. Source: Zimbabwe Top News www.zimtopnews.blogspot.com

Best Ever Anarchist Novels

A little background information on what Anarchism is.

Anarchism is a belief that societies should self-govern with its institutions formed on the bases of free-will. There are quite a number of philosophies regarding anarchism and in their multitudes, as it seems, they hardly agree on what it is...Widely, this means one and every 'anarchy follower' holds an entirely independent perspective on how, (given they even regard it as anarchism), people are ought to live. Some 'anarchists' even believe individuals should govern themselves...But ultimately, the mutual understanding is that; the world's 'power systems' should be put out to waste, as widely said, they are the reason behind the world's (human inflicted) plights as seen in most of the novels written by anarchists.

There have been multitudes of 'anarchist' fiction literature over the course of time. Almost each and each of the works proves a different understanding of the associated concepts.

These, (if not the best ever), are five of the most reputable fiction works by believers of anarchism. Some of them have made it to an extend of influencing a couple of revolutionary movements around the world;

1. George Orwell's Animal Farm

First published in England on 17 August 1945 followed by a number editions, Animal Farm is an allegorical novel by the well known British essayist and novelist (George Orwell). Orwell reflects upon the maneuvers leading to the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union.
The society depicted serves as an epitome of how nearly all the world's societies are in a constant battle to overthrow superiors who are crowned by hierarchy. When the philosophical Old Major, a prize winning boar, puts together the animals of the 'Manor Farm' in a barn meeting, he tells them of a dream he has had in which all animals live together with no human beings to oppress them or control how they live. He philosophizes to the animals that they must work towards such a paradise and teaches them a revolutionary song called the 'Beasts of England' in which his dream vision is lyrically described.

Image: upload.wikimedia.

When the 'philosopher' dies, and his vision Is carried out led by Snowball, Napoleon, and Squealer through coining 'animal ism', the events that follow that follow prove prove unfortunate for the rest of the animals that believe. Overthrowing the 'Human government' will end all the oppression and suffering. Overtime, life on the farm becomes more and more unbearable. The new pig government making the fellow animals of a purported-non-existent 'sugar-candy mountainsides to manipulate the 'subservient' animals. This again leads into another set of awakening among the more revolutionary animals-in opposition to the now oppressive pig government.
The overall suggestion in the unfolding of the novel's events seems to be that; as long as there is a 'Superior power' in a given societal setting, society will always be subject to injustices that will eventually cause suffering.

2. Dambudzo Marechera: The House of Hunger.

Still largely influencing today's Southern African Literature.

"I got my things and left ," in the 'major' story of the 9-short-story anthology, 'House of Hunger', has been hailed as one of the best  African story opening. Firstly, the protagonist, 'the writer himself', is constantly fleeing from the miseries brought about by the institutionalized abusive system existing in colonial Rhodesia (in which the novel is set). And secondly, for so many other reasons with regard to the author's 'psychological-text' style of narrating.
The short-story. Serves as example of all 'native' Rhodesians' plight under the British colonial system. The colonized in Rhodesia lived in undesirable conditions that would always make one want to 'take their possessions and leave'.
The 9 short-story anthology is probably Africa's most viral 'fiction' from the 70s that displays vivid anarchist tendencies and the writer himself is his nation's 'literature' hero who has received world wide recognition for his works and social character.

3.V-for Vandetta

Written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lyold and Tony Weare, V-for Vandetta is a graphical novel that was first published in 1988.

The story portrays a post-apocalyptic near-future history version of the United Kingdom in the 90s, preceded by a nuclear war in the 1980's which leaves most of the world destroyed The book is renowned world wide for its amazing anarchist comic work and it is an excellent example of how comic books have evolved from the simple formula of heroes in capes fighting criminals to telling dark and politically complicated stories. (V) who is the protagonist of the novel is endowed with strong anarchist tendencies. At first, he is despised by the citizens of London but later on he's to become a hero because he fuels a revolution against the growing totalitarian rule arising in London which ends the oppression the citizens have been experiencing.

4. The Dispossessed

The dispossessed is a tenebrous opposite of Utopia. It is a science fiction novel that was written by Ursula k.le Gwin. It was first published in 1974 and the book received a number of important awards. The novel is set in a fictional universe as that of "The Left Hand of Darkness"
The novel portrays two radical societies on two different planets. Urras, is a hierarchical governed state marked by autonomous regions. On the other side of the coin is Anarres, a 'non-government system' as well as exercising 'economic freedom.' Shevek, a physicist on Anarres, wants to break the rules of his world and travel to Urras to promote friendship between the two planets. For quite a while he gets acquainted with Urras that he discovers the short falls of 'Utopia' and is not at all as perfect as he thought it would be. Merely pointing to the notion that "The Dispossessed is a novel of anarchy and individualism, of Utopias and paradise..."

5. The Monkey Wrench Gang

'The Monkey Wrench Gang' is a novel that was written by Edward Paul an American author and Essayist_who's well known for his concern for the environment, criticism of the public land policies, and his anarchist and political views. The novel's major characters are a team of four eccentric personalities that have a hard time fitting in their immediate societies. The protagonists are aware of dominant system that destroys and pollutes their environment which is the American West and hopes that by ending a system of minority dominance will help fix the environment.

Those Top 37 Things You’ll Regret When You’re Old.

1. Not traveling when you had the chance.

Traveling becomes infinitely harder the older you get, especially if you have a family and need to pay the way for three-plus people instead of just yourself.

2. Not learning another language.

You’ll kick yourself when you realize you took three years of language in high school and remember none of it.

3. Staying in a bad relationship.

No one who ever gets out of a bad relationship looks back without wishing they made the move sooner.

4. Forgoing sunscreen.

Wrinkles, moles, and skin cancer can largely be avoided if you protect yourself.

5. Missing the chance to see your favorite musicians.

“Nah, dude, I’ll catch Nirvana next time they come through town.” Facepalm.

6. Being scared to do things.

Looking back you’ll think, What was I so afraid of?

7. Failing to make physical fitness a priority.

Too many of us spend the physical peak of our lives on the couch. When you hit 40, 50, 60, and beyond, you’ll dream of what you could have done.

8. Letting yourself be defined by gender roles.

Few things are as sad as an old person saying, “Well, it just wasn’t done back then.”

9. Not quitting a terrible job.

Look, you gotta pay the bills. But if you don’t make a plan to improve your situation, you might wake up one day having spent 40 years in hell.

10. Not trying harder in school.

It’s not just that your grades play a role in determining where you end up in life. Eventually you’ll realize how neat it was to get to spend all day learning, and wish you’d paid more attention.

11. Not realizing how beautiful you were.

Too many of us spend our youth unhappy with the way we look, but the reality is, that’s when we’re our most beautiful.

12. Being afraid to say “I love you.”

When you’re old, you won’t care if your love wasn’t returned — only that you made it known how you felt.

13. Not listening to your parents’ advice.

You don’t want to hear it when you’re young, but the infuriating truth is that most of what your parents say about life is true.

14. Spending your youth self-absorbed.

You’ll be embarrassed about it, frankly.

15. Caring too much about what other people think.
In 20 years you won’t give a darn about any of those people you once worried so much about.

16. Supporting others’ dreams over your own.

Supporting others is a beautiful thing, but not when it means you never get to shine.

17. Not moving on fast enoug h.

Old people look back at the long periods spent picking themselves off the ground as nothing but wasted time.

18. Holding grudges, especially with those you love.

What’s the point of re-living the anger over and over?

19. Not standing up for yourself.

Old people don’t take sh*t from anyone. Neither should you.

20. Not volunteering enough.

OK, so you probably won’t regret not volunteering Hunger Games style, but nearing the end of one’s life without having helped to make the world a better place is a great source of sadness for many.

21. Neglecting your teeth.

Neglecting your teeth.
Brush. Floss. Get regular checkups. It will all seem so maddeningly easy when you have dentures.

22. Missing the chance to ask your grandparents questions before they die.

Most of us realize too late what an awesome resource grandparents are. They can explain everything you’ll ever wonder about where you came from, but only if you ask them in time.
23. Working too much.

No one looks back from their deathbed and wishes they spent more time at the office, but they do wish they spent more time with family, friends, and hobbies.

24. Not learning how to cook one awesome meal.

Knowing one drool-worthy meal will make all those dinner parties and celebrations that much more special.

25. Not stopping enough to appreciate the moment.

Young people are constantly on the go, but stopping to take it all in now and again is a good thing.

26. Failing to finish what you start.

Failing to finish what you start.
“I had big dreams of becoming a nurse. I even signed up for the classes, but then…”

27. Never mastering one awesome party trick.

You will go to hundreds, if not thousands, of parties in your life. Wouldn’t it be cool to be the life of them all?

28. Letting yourself be defined by cultural expectations.
Letting yourself be defined by cultural expectations.
Don’t let them tell you, “We don’t do that.”

29. Refusing to let friendships run their course.
People grow apart. Clinging to what was, instead of acknowledging that things have changed, can be a source of ongoing agitation and sadness.

30. Not playing with your kids enough.

When you’re old, you’ll realize your kid went from wanting to play with you to wanting you out of their room in the blink of an eye.

9 Of The Most Powerful Quotes From Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o's Public Lecture

Father of "decolonising the mind" Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o's public lecture at Wits University had some incredibly powerful truths to remind us of.

Kenyan author Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o, considered the founding father of decolonialisation discourse, delivered a lecture titled "Secure the Base, Decolonise the Mind" at Wits University on Thursday evening.

The university's Great Hall 1000+ seating was filled beyond capacity, with many people left standing or taking up seats at two spillover spaces.

Wa Thiong'o, who coined the term "decolonising the mind" following his 1986 book "Decolonising the Mind: the Politics of Language in African Literature", holds the title of Distinguished Professor of the Departments of Comparative Literature and English at the University of California, Irvine. He has written two autobiographical works, "Dreams in a Time of War: a Childhood Memoir" and "In the House of the Interpreter: A Memoir", in addition to a collection of seminal texts foundational to the decolonisation school of thought and fiction.

Wa Thiong'o began his lecture explaining that to understand the world and Africa's place in it, "we must understand ourselves". He developed this idea with facts about Africa's geographical size relative to the size of the former colonial powers. The former colonial countries all fit into Africa, and yet, the geographical maps of the early colonial cartographers depict Africa as smaller and less significant. He spoke about the language of "tribe" versus "nation".

"How are 300,000 Icelanders a nation, but 40 million Yoruba are tribesmen?" he asked.

Here are 9 of the most powerful things he said:

1. "We must be careful with the vocabulary that defines us ... to not internalise the negativity."

2. "Let us call people by what they call themselves."

3. "...Black intellectual tradition has given so much to the rest of the world ... but this is often invisible".

4. "African languages are not on a lower rung on a ladder to an English heaven...

5. Use English... but don't let English use you..."

6. "In colonial conquest, language did to the mind what the sword did to the bodies of the colonised"

7. "Accents for access: ... While African leaders perfected their accents, Europeans sharpened tools for access to their [Africa's] resources"

8. "It is not African languages that threaten English. But postcolonial African policy makers will often insist that they do."

9. "If you know all the languages of the world but not your mother tongue, that is enslavement. Knowing your mother tongue and all other languages too is empowerment."

True Success

Posted by Victoria Osteen on March 03, 2017

One day I was talking to a man who was celebrating his 75th birthday. He was tremendously wealthy and successful by the worlds standards. I was talking to him about his accomplishments and he told me, "When I look back over my life, the greatest moments are when I used my gifts to help others get ahead." He didn't tell me about his awards or assets. He didn't tell me about his great travels. There was no satisfaction in what He had become but in what he could help others become.

God has placed in our spirits a longing to achieve, to be successful, to accomplish greatness. Ultimately, we are being groomed on this earth to rule and reign with Him. Success alone won't fulfill us and make us happy. What makes us happy is when we use our abilities and success to help other people.

Always remember, we are created to do good works in the earth. Those good works are about what we deposit into other people and how we share the love of God. Living as the hands and feed of Jesus and fulfilling His plan in the earth is how we experience true success both now and in eternity.

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving " (Colossians 3:23-24, NIV).

Greatness in the Kingdom

Posted by Victoria Osteen on February 28, 2017

There's a story in scripture about a mother who had something on her heart. She wanted the best for her children and so she went to Jesus and said, "Can I talk to you about something?" She loved her two sons so much that she asked Jesus, "When they get to heaven, can one of my sons sit on your left side and can the other sit on your right side?" This was a bold mother! I admire her tenacity to try to make that happen. Wouldn't you try if you could? The disciples of course were less than thrilled. They thought, "Who does she think she is? We've followed Jesus and walked and talked with Him. We deserve to sit with Him in Heaven." Jesus understood where the woman was coming from and so He took the opportunity to teach all of them something about the Kingdom of Heaven. He said, "If you want to be the greatest in the kingdom, you have to become the least. You have to become the servant of all." Jesus didn't come to earth to be served, He came to be the servant of all.

Another time they were at the table and Jesus knew they still hadn't grasped the concept. He arose from His place and prepared to wash their feet. He was showing them what greatness looked like. Greatness is serving one another. It wasn't below His position of authority, it was a part of His position and authority. Jesus wants His people to rise up in the earth but the authority He's given us is never to Lord over others, it's to serve and build up others.

In Psalms, David said, "God, you have stooped down to make us great." Jesus set the example for us when He stooped down to wash the feet of others. If we are...cont here.

Dearest grandmama: by STEPHEN

Hi all, I would like to share a story with you, a person who has been a source of inspiration to each and everyone of our family member.

She is (was rather, she is no more) my grandmama. She was an affectionate woman who could win over anyone with her undying love, no matter what. Let me narrate to you, the story of her life, the trauma that no woman should ever undergo!

She was the eldest of a family of 7 girls and 1 boy. Of these, 2 children died shortly after birth. Right now, only 2 of them are alive.

At the age of 16, my grandma got married as a second wife to a 40 year old man. She lost her husband 1 year after her wedding. By God’s grace she had a son whom she considered a solace. But that didn’t last, as the son passed away shortly too! Ultimately, by the age of 25 she lost her entire family! Nevertheless, she then dedicated her life towards the upbringing of each and every child in the family. This was the reason she was loved and respected by everyone in our family.

Last year, by this same time, my marriage was fixed. Being the oldest grandchild in my family, she was very happy and said she would bring up my kid too! I was in tears and said of course you will have to! Shortly before my engagement, she had a fall one night when sleeping. It left her right hand fractured. There began all the trouble. She was 83 years old by then.

At my engagement function, all she could do was sit quietly in one place. It was a hard hitting reality for all of us since we got used to seeing her doing the entire household chores all by herself!

There was hardly a month left for my wedding. She developed a strange mental depression since that time, imagining things, fearing death, longing to see my wedding and the like. All of us assured her that she would be the first person to bless me at my wedding. But nature is inevitable as we all know.

She was admitted in the ICU for nearly 20 days. All day we would stay at the hospital, praying for her. One fine day it happened-what we all feared. She was no more, and left all of us teary-eyed.
My dad was the eldest child in the family, so naturally he had to do the rites. But our family stopped him since I had my wedding the next month. We (me, dad, mum and sis) weren’t allowed to even see her face! Imagine our plight!

At my wedding, her garlanded photo was in front of me and my husband. I was speechless, moved to tears. I knew, my dearest grandmama will bless me as ever!

Even today, we don’t feel her loss, I only feel why she isn’t around to share our joys and sorrows.

I’d like to conclude by saying not only parents, grandparents need our affection and care! They are precious, do not lose them at any cost!!

Throw Like a Girl Why Feminism Insults Real Women

Article by

Guest Contributor at Desiring God

Rebekah Merkle and her husband have five children and live in Moscow, Idaho. She is the author of Eve in Exile.
The feminist movement has accomplished much in our country. Apart from the abortion carnage, I suspect the most unfortunate accomplishment is that it has destroyed the idea of achieving excellence as a woman.

That may seem counterintuitive. After all, aren’t feminists fighting so that we women can have whole worlds of opportunities opening up before us — that we might be able to soar, chase our dreams, achieve, excel? Well, as a matter of fact, no.
If you ask average people what the feminist cause is about, they will tell you that it’s about women being equal with men — about ensuring that we not be treated as inferior, second-class citizens. And of course, if you put it that way, what sane person would disagree, right? But there’s actually some sneaky, behind-the-scenes, pea-and-thimble work happening when the feminist position is summarized that way.

The Fruit of Feminine Equality

The idea that women are equal to men is not a feminist idea; it’s a Christian idea. The apostle Paul said it long before Elizabeth Cady Stanton or Gloria Steinem when he taught us that in Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female (Galatians 3:28 ). And he said it nearly two millennia before the women’s rights people came along.

The feminists try to take credit for something that is the fruit of the gospel, working its way into culture like yeast through a loaf. We need to stop letting the feminists act as if they somehow achieved our equality. Unconverted societies never treat women well, and that is extraordinarily easy to document. Women being treated with respect is fruit that grows on one kind of tree, and that tree is a cross.

Of course we Christians believe that women are equal to men. Not only is this belief not a compromise with the feminists, or something we learned from the feminists, it’s actually one of our distinctives. We have verses for this conviction and we always have.

What Is Equality?

So, what’s wrong with feminism? Honestly, much of it comes down to a fight over definitions. What does “equal” really mean? Does it mean “the same”? A Christian believes that women are different than men — with different strengths, different abilities, and different tasks. We don’t believe that this difference implies inequality. A feminist, on the other hand, believes that true equality cannot be achieved without sameness.

But a rolling pin is different than a measuring cup, and we can acknowledge that without saying one is better than the other. And what a weird thing it would be if we did! Imagine showing someone your kitchen tools and having them indignantly accuse you of believing the measuring cup was better than the rolling pin. Better at what? If you want to measure some flour, you’ll have a hard time with a rolling pin, and you’ll have similar problems trying to roll out a pie crust with a measuring cup. A rolling pin has to be evaluated according to the standards of what makes a good rolling pin, and measuring cups have to be judged on their own terms. (As a sidenote, if you cringe at the domestic analogy, then it shows you’re doing exactly what I’m talking about.)

Women’s Potential for Excellence
We believe that women are different than men, and therefore have to be held up...cont with story here.

Interesting Little Story of Ethiopia: by Wazaa Wezir

If I could name a single most phenomenal event in the Ethiopian history that humbles my heart, it is the battle and victory of ADWA. This is because the battle at Adwa wasn’t just another conflict but the sum of several years of calculated mischief, treachery and disdain by the then colonial Europeans. And the battle was won with a colorful victory by the Ethiopians because it was a matter of Ethiopia. It was a question of Abyssinia being COLONIZED or not.

See, the thing is, the Italians didn’t know who they were dealing with. They thought they were so clever and superior in every way that they didn’t even want to put up a fight but simply take the country by making King Menelik II sign a deceiving treaty at Wuchale. Given the whole of Africa was under different colonial rules at that time it never crossed their mind that these habesha people were any different so if they want to fight, they would simply crush them and make them accept that they are their colonial rulers from then on. Little did they know how Ethiopians would prefer death than seeing someone else’s flag in their soil. Little did they know how brave their Queen Taietu , how smart their king Menelik or how skilled their warriors were.

I remember once a girl (somewhere from Europe) asked me when our independence day was and I causally replied with “we don’t have Independence day”. The girl looked so pitiful and said “oh am very sorry about that”!. Few seconds had to pass untill I actually realized what this means. What she ment. What it means to not have an independence day because you know….I come from a land that HAS ALWAYS BEEN INDEPENDEDT. It was may be one of the most striking points in my life about my Ethiopian-ness and what it means to be from the only independent black nation in the world. While I said to the girl “don’t be sorry, it’s because WE ONLY HAVE VICTORY DAYS” I also vowed to be forever grateful for my ancestors.

Because of these people and the Adwa victory in particular ,me and 90 million other Ethiopians, NEVER FIT in to that little box of the typical “black history”. Especially my years living abroad have exposed me to the knowledge of how the world sees Africa, Africans and people with a drop of blood from Africa in general, and I can only feel humbled and thankful for the people who died to save me my DIGNITY and IDENTITY! I feel like a spoiled child because none of the stupidity regarding race and identity crises could never shake my integrity. Because of them, I stand before the rest of the world proud and dignified, regardless of what the world believes!

Thank you Atse Menelik II, Thank you Etege Taitu and Thank you all the brave men and women who died out of love for their country.

I am forever indebted.

Miriam Masoli Thali Dies: First Woman In South Africa To Publish A Book In English

Renowned South African author Miriam Masoli Tlali passed away on February 24 2017, aged 83. Born November 11 1933 in Doornfontein, Johannesburg, Tlali was the first black South African woman to publish a novel in English within the country’s borders. She is best known for this work, first published as “ Muriel at Metropolitan ” in 1975 by Ravan Press.

It was re-issued in 2004 by the title she had preferred from the start, “Between Two Worlds”. Based on her time as an administrative assistant at a furniture store in downtown Johannesburg during the height of apartheid, the novel documents the daily humiliations of petty apartheid. There were two types of apartheid, grand apartheid and the petty version, which the New York Times once described as,
the practice of segregation in the routine of daily life – in lavatories, restaurants, railway cars, busses, swimming pools and other public facilities.

“Muriel at Metropolitan”/“Between Two Worlds” was the first literary text that portrayed the degrading conditions under which African women laboured during apartheid. It highlighted how strict influx control into “white” cities hampered black women’s opportunities for employment and fulfilling family lives.
Tlali hated the original title of her first novel. She agreed to have it published under that name because her mother was close to dying, and she wanted her to see the novel in print before her death. In the preface to “Between Two Worlds”, Tlali recounted that after the novel’s publication:

I returned to my matchbox house in Soweto, locked myself in my little bedroom and cried… Five whole chapters had been removed; also paragraphs, phrases, and sentences. It was devastating, to say the least.

Despite these misgivings, “Muriel at Metropolitan” made a big impact globally. Forty five different editions of the novel were published between 1975 and 2005, with translations into three languages.

Protest literature

Tlali recovered from her devastation, going on to publish the Black Consciousness novel “ Amandla” (1980). It was grouped by critics as part of the “Soweto School” of protest literature.
The novel is a rich evocation of the youth uprising against apartheid education and the apartheid state in 1976. Inspired by the uprising and Steve Biko ‘s Black Conciousness
ideology , it centres around Pholoso, a young freedom fighter who rallies the youth of Soweto against apartheid. He goes on to become part of the underground resistance, eventually going into exile.

Soweto, and its abject relationship to the wealthy Johannesburg, was an enduring concern for Tlali in her fiction. She published “ Footprints in the Quag: Stories and Dialogues from Soweto ” (also published as “Soweto Stories”), a collection of short stories delving in the experiences of Sowetans (mostly women) in 1989.
She also published a collection of short stories, interviews and essays in “ Mihloti ” (1984), published by Skotaville Press, which she helped establish. Tlali was also a frequent contributor to the anti-apartheid literary journal “ Staffrider ”, which she co-founded. The journal was an important vehicle for publishing black literature and criticism during the apartheid years, often the only South African outlet for black creative writing.
Enemy of the state

Because of her stature internationally and the political content of her novels, Tlali became an enemy of the state. Both her novels were immediately banned by apartheid censors. Her political and literary prominence made her a target of the regime’s notorious Security Branch. This dreaded secret police unit repeatedly harassed, arrested...cont with story here

Good Touching Story That Will Change Your Day

This amazing story was originally posted on Facebook. It is a touching lesson on being patient - you HAVE to read it, it'll change how you think.

A NYC Taxi driver wrote:

I arrived at the address and honked the horn. After waiting a few minutes I honked again. Since this was going to be my last ride of my shift I thought about just driving away, but instead I put the car in park and walked up to the door and knocked.. 'Just a minute', answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor.

After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 90's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940's movie.
By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets.

There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard
box filled with photos and glassware.

'Would you carry my bag out to the car?' she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman.
She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb.
She kept thanking me for my kindness. 'It's nothing', I told her.. 'I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother to be treated.'

'Oh, you're such a good boy, she said. When we got in the cab, she gave me an address and then asked, 'Could you drive through downtown?'

'It's not the shortest way,' I answered quickly..
'Oh, I don't mind,' she said. 'I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice.

I looked in the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were glistening. 'I don't have any family left,' she continued in a soft voice..'The doctor says I don't have very long.' I quietly reached over and shut off the meter.

'What route would you like me to take?' I asked.
For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator.

We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl.

Sometimes she'd ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.
As the first hint of sun was creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, 'I'm tired.Let's go now'. We drove in silence to the address she had given me. It was a low building, like a small convalescent home, with a driveway that passed under a portico.
Two orderlies came out to the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were solicitous and intent, watching her every move. They must have been expecting her.

I opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair.

'How much do I owe you?' She asked, reaching...cont with story here.
